Mary Ann Shimek, FNP |
Mary Ann is a native resident of Matagorda County and has been a Nurse Practitioner with MEHOP for seven years. Mary Ann received her Master's in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. Prior to working at MEHOP, Mary Ann worked as a school nurse caring for children. She is a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios and also a member of Texas Nurse Practitioners. For many years Mary Ann has dedicated her spare time to the support of multiple youth groups including FFA and 4H. |

James Ely, MD, FACOG |
Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Ely has been serving the needs of residents in Matagorda County since 1983 and delivered around 4000 babies during his practice in Obstetrics. Away from his clinic practice he is a Minister in the Episcopal Church and was a charter member of The Crisis Center, KIDS in Distress and also MEHOP Board of Directors. Dr. Ely provides his services at MEHOP on a consultant basis for gynecological services to MEHOP patients once a month, while also continuing his private clinic practice located in Bay City, Texas.

John D. Ferguson, DDS - Dental Director |
Dr. Ferguson joined MEHOP's Dental Clinic in May, 2010. He graduated from University of Toronto Dental Faculty in 1983. Following graduation from Dental School, Dr. Ferguson spent four years in the Canadian Armed Forces, Dental Services. After completion of his military service, he practiced General Family Dentistry in both Canada and the United States. His mother is a native Texan and he has many relatives sprinkled throughout the state. He enjoys working at MEHOP and providing dental services and education to the community. He and his family attend First Baptist Church in Bay City and have enjoyed making Bay City their home.

Lillian Solis-Smith, PhD |

Dr. Solis-Smith received her undergraduate degree from Sam Houston State University. She continued her education at Our Lady of the Lake University where she received her Masters, and from there Completed her Doctorate at St. mary's University. She completed her internship with the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health in San Antonio and established her private practice in The Woodlands, Texas. Desiring to move back to her roots, she now resides in Matagorda County.
