To improve the health status of our clients in a medical home environment, providing quality Primary Health Care services along with spiritual care to people in the communities we serve.
History
MEHOP originated in 1998, initially as a vision of the Episcopal Churches within Matagorda County to provide the under served with medical care. MEHOP began as a mobile medical unit providing medical care throughout the rural areas within the county for those who were uninsured or unable to access medical care. Funding received from the Episcopal Diocese made this vision a reality.
Dental services were added at MEHOP with a part time contract dentist in 2004. In 2007, with the mobile unit near the end of its service and MEHOP applying to accept Medicare and Medicaid, MEHOP opened a permanent site at its current location. In 2009 MEHOP received federal funding through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act designating MEHOP as a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC). With the new designation, MEHOP continues to expand services to meet the healthcare needs of Matagorda County and surrounding areas. MEHOP accepts private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, Star, Star Plus and also offers a discounted sliding fee scale for those who are uninsured to allow access to healthcare at more affordable costs.
Currently, MEHOP provides primary medical care,OB/GYN, pediatrics, dentistry and behavioral health services in addition to services that meet patients personal needs such as prescription saving programs, discount eyeglasses and free health management classes. Case managers work with our patients to secure referral appointments to specialists and schedule diagnostic testing. Case managers also assist patients who need help beyond the services of MEHOP. MEHOP is part of the United Way network and strives to establish collaborative relationships with organizations in Matagorda County, the region and the state.
